The Slow Fashion Sewing ADVANCED Series for Young People: REMAKING CLOTHING

Take your slow fashion experience to the next level with Lisa Haas and explore how to design and remake clothing into new garments

At The ReDress Hub, we're here to help you on your journey to be more 'circular' with your clothing choices, avoid or reduce the consumption of fast-fashion, and clothing and textile waste.

This series of workshops, takes the next step in your circular clothing journey by showing you how to design and remake a pair of jeans into something new. They have been created to further your skills in creating your own handmade 'slow-fashion' clothes, contributing to this global circular clothing movement, as well as an introduction to the design process.

This series has been specially designed for year 7-12 secondary students who wish to advance their sewing skills in an after-school time slot (Thursdays 4:00-6:00p).

The amazing Lisa Haas (a designer and experienced high-school technology teacher) will be your workshop facilitator, guiding you over these workshops, to deconstruct, design, reconstruct and finish a garment for you to proudly wear at the end of the course.

It is also the perfect workshop series for those wishing to enter the . For those wanting to enter ReDressed 2024, you can complete the workshop in 3 weeks to get your entry in by November 1st. This will require you to stay an additional 30 mins for the first 3 weeks of the series. The course will be adapted accordingly for you over the 3 weeks.

The Slow Fashion Sewing ADVANCED Series includes:

  • Week 1, OCT 17 (2 hrs): Explore design opportunities by using the design process and design thinking
  • Week 2, OCT 24 (2 hrs): Deconstruction techniques - how to make the most of existing garment/s, by understanding the construction of the garment, fabric types, notions etc.
  • Week 3, OCT 31 (2hrs): Simple pattern making (or adapting) - according to design decisions and starting to consider construction
  • Week 4, NOV 7 (2hrs): Constructing new design - including complexities involved with using heavy fabrics including existing seams, notions etc
  • PLEASE NOTE: there may be some tasks we will need you to complete before the workshop in the following week

If you can attend all weeks except one, please get in touch with us as we would like to work with you to see how we can still make this work for you.

Her design ethos is strongly grounded in sustainability and all her work is made from either repurposed or natural materials.

Lisa works with a range of students, up until recently in a school setting, but now with individuals or small groups in her studio in Somerset and at The ReDress Hub. She is a patient and thoughtful teacher who believes everyone is capable of successfully completing their own design projects.
